Kerry Kounnapis Architecture Practice (KKAP) is a Melbourne-based design studio established in 2020. We work across architecture and interiors – from the finely detailed to the large-scale – with an approach grounded in ideas, people, and precise assembly. Whether it’s a small domestic space or a public-facing building, each project is an opportunity to craft something meaningful, specific, and enduring.
As a practice, we’re interested in architecture that holds ambiguity as well as clarity; work that embraces complexity, invites interpretation, and rewards close attention. Our designs draw on a deep interest in history, often looking back centuries to uncover moments of richness and resilience in the built environment. But this isn’t nostalgia. We don’t imitate the past. We learn from it, extracting its lessons in solidity, rhythm, and proportion.
At the same time, we’re drawn to the present: to the quirks of everyday life, to moments of informality, and finding joy in the ordinary. Our buildings aim to sit with grace in their context – both socially and physically – while offering something unexpected, even delightful.
KKAP’s work has been recognised locally and internationally through various publications and awards. The practice maintains strong ties to RMIT University, with Kerry regularly teaching and critiquing design studios — an essential extension of the work, allowing us to think out loud, stay curious, and test the limits of architectural thinking.
We embrace the freedom, focus, and agility that scale offers, and treat every project as a chance to think rigorously, collaborate openly, and build with intent.
