Collingwood Studio occupies a former CSIRO building in the back streets of Collingwood. The structure is concrete and blockwork, but much of that strength had been hidden behind numerous layers of renovation; plasterboard walls and painted surfaces had hidden what was once a robust, purposeful shell. So, the project began by uncovering what was already there. Each layer was stripped back until the reinforced concrete frame and infill blockwork were revealed, bringing the building’s order and rhythm back into focus.
