Description
Installed at Melbourne Quarter, a circular brass disk marks the very point Robert Hoddle began to map the city. Developed in collaboration with Lisa Young, the work sits at one metre in diameter, a scale that invites you to stop and read, yet is substantial enough to hold its own in a wide civic plaza. The polished surface carries a precise engraving of the 1837–1839 auction map for the first lots in Melbourne’s CBD – the names of buyers, the prices paid, and the pattern of steadily rising values in those early years. It’s history; distilled into a single, tangible object.
